Wirtshaus Menu

Servus and Griss enk at King Ludwig’s. My name is Adi Schützeneder and since July 2024 I am the very proud Wirt (Wirt is the host and operator) here at King Ludwig’s. Hailing from Austria the team and I have added a few dishes and beverages without losing the essential King Ludwig’s classics of course, rest assured we won’t disappoint you. Head Chef Hunter Kohlmeyer works his magic in the kitchen with his team to bring you the most authentic flavors possible and adds some international special too. We’ll launch soon our Schnitzel-Days, stay tuned on socials for more details.

A classic Wiener Schnitzel has made it onto the menu and we extend the opening hours. Our kitchen is open ALL DAY LONG from 11:30am onwards so you don’t feel left “stranded” and with an empty tummy after 2:30pm here on the ridge . Our kitchen doesn’t close anymore in the afternoon. From Thursday – Monday we’ll serve the full menu from 11:30am until close – no afternoon break. However, Sunday we only operate at lunch time. Reservations recommended.

Stay hydrated – we offer supervised drinking. After investing 4 years of my life in my late 40’s, I am (finally) a Dip WSET now, with a Diploma 4 from Wine Spirit Education Trust based in London – WSET level 4 diploma As such, I am an official and certified wine wa^+er 😉 and according to my wife, I am a wine hoarder and a bit crazy too… Have a look at our new Wine and Cocktail list. I dare saying we do have a very interesting (and probably the best on the coast) beverage program. Influenced by 40 years in hospitality and travelling the world on a cruise ship for more than a decade our beverage list is loaded with interesting drinks & unique bottles, classic vintages – like 1982 Bordeaux, quirky and worth exploring wines which will balance the currently “beer heavy” beverage offerings. We just increased our Cocktail selection, added 20+ wines by the glass to introduce you to something new perhaps as I LOVE the Granite Belt region or simply come in and enjoy a good old NZ Savy while soaking up the amazing views. You’ll find bottles of wine from $42 until $3250.00 for our 1947 Château Lafite-Rothschild and everything in between.

You had me at Pork Knuckle
Please pre-order our famous 4-hour slow-cooked Pork Knuckle when making your booking so you don’t miss out and don’t be like Kylie who gave us a 1 star rating because she didn’t check the website nor did she pre-order her 2 knuckles but refused the last one we had on offer! We simply can’t “fast track” a 4-hour process when they are sold out – that is the reason we don’t have the pork knuckle on the menu. For us that is the only way we can offer them fresh and juicy. I hope that makes sense to everyone, except for Kylie of course…

Please note: We changed our processes and have those Knuckles available now (almost) any day we are open (unless sold out or unavailable). Being Austrian, I want the knuckles “swimming” in a salt brine with secret herbs and spices for at least 24 hours prior being cooked.

A few NEW HOUSEKEEPING rules to ensure EVERYONE has a great time with us:

KIDS: Your children are welcome at anytime of course; however, we all do appreciate well behaved kids who don’t disturb other diners. Please don’t let them run around, they must wear shoes at all times and don’t forget, our Kids menu includes ice cream too. If you let them watch their devices, please use head sets and/or mute the devise as most of us are past and over Peppa Pig, Bluey etc. 😉 – thank you. AND, parents, we’d appreciate if you’d pick up most of the food and rubbish your kid dropped on the floor, our parents did that too, thank you very much. We do get more and more complaints from other guests regarding noisy and ill-behaved children; the last thing we want is to ban kids at night in the future.

DOGS: We can ONLY offer the outdoor tables in the garden for dog owners no matter how small, how old or how well behaved your pet is. We have no lights out there, therefore those garden tables can only be used during the daytime dining. You might have to share those garden tables with other dog owners. Council does not allow dogs inside the restaurant. The balconies are considered a part of the restaurant dining area too and can only be accessed through the main restaurant, which the dog would have to cross through. Even if you offer to “carry” the dog through the restaurant, it is still not allowed to have a dog on the balcony, sorry. Those are not our rules!

NO BYO CAKES: Sorry, NO BYO cakes under my management due to food safety concerns. There is a 100% certainty that we’ll get the blame if you fall sick after eating you cream cake has been sitting unrefrigerated in the hot car from the Gold Coast to us. It is still a NO even if you want to cut the cake yourself, bring your own forks and napkins… sorry, no, we can’t accommodate BYO cakes. ONLY food produced in our kitchen, in our temperature controlled environment can be consumed at King Ludwig’s. We do have candles and sparklers for your convenience free of charge when you order a dessert at KL.

NO BYO wine, beer, soft drinks. Not even your favorite non-alcoholic wine. We are fully licensed and have a huge variety of beverages to meet most demands, I am sure of it.

NO TAKE-AWAY beverages of any kind I am afraid. And no, we don’t do TAKE-AWAY food either, we are Europeans and embrace slow-food in the company of friends & family.

Too many rules? Well, I am Austrian living in a nanny-state, what can I say 😉

Now, grab your partner, your thirsty mate or your (well-behaved) family, come on in, join us for a late lunch or early dinner or simply enjoy a drink while soaking up the breathtaking views. HAPPY HOUR coming soon … stay tuned on socials.

We look forward to introducing you to classic Austrian & Bavarian Gastfreundschaft in our Wirtshaus.
Servas und pfiat enk,

Adi and the KL team
